Serve it by age
6 months
Offer the smooth purée on a spoon, or mix it with banana purée.
7–8 months
Mash lightly so it has soft lumps, or offer thick, ripe avocado spears rolled in ground oats for grip.
9–12 months
Cut ripe avocado into small cubes, or spread it thinly on toast fingers (contains wheat).
health_and_safetyAllergens
None of the top 9 allergens in the purée itself. The toast serving idea adds wheat and the yogurt swap adds milk; offer these only after each has been introduced on its own.
sync_altSwaps
- swap_horizMash with ripe banana or cooked sweet potato for a sweeter purée.
- swap_horizStir in a little plain whole-milk yogurt (contains milk) for a tangy dip.
kitchenStorage
Best fresh. Covered with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface, it keeps 1 day in the fridge (the top may brown; scrape it off). Avocado can be frozen in cubes up to 2 months, but the texture softens.
Safety reminders
- No added salt, sugar or honey before 12 months.
- At 6 months, blend until completely smooth with no lumps or skins; move on to thicker, lumpier textures over the next few weeks.
- Stay with your baby and keep them seated upright while eating.
