Method

  1. 1

Stir the oat flour, milk, fruit and chia together in a small jar until smooth.

  2. 2

Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 6 hours.

  3. 3

In the morning, stir well. Add a little more milk if it is too thick for your baby.

  4. 4

Serve cold or take the chill off by standing the jar in warm water for a few minutes.

Serve it by age

6 months

Use finely ground oats and thin until the texture is smooth and runny enough to swallow easily. For the very first tastes you can use iron-fortified infant oat cereal instead.

7–8 months

Use quick oats without blending for a thicker, slightly lumpy texture.

9–12 months

Use rolled oats and stir in mashed berries or a little plain whole-milk yogurt (contains milk).

health_and_safetyAllergens

None of the top 9 allergens. Oats may contain wheat. The yogurt options add milk, and the peanut butter swap adds peanut. Offer each only after it has been introduced on its own.

sync_altSwaps

  • swap_horizUse plain whole-milk yogurt (contains milk) for half the liquid from 6 months.
  • swap_horizStir in ½–1 tsp smooth peanut butter, thinned with warm water and mixed through completely (contains peanut), once peanut has been introduced.

kitchenStorage

Fridge up to 24 hours if made with breast milk or formula. Discard what's left in the bowl after a meal.
